Five Haikus

desperation lives

inside my mom’s dying heart

she keeps us afloat

“see the northern star?”

cold, dark, wet through to my bones

“that will lead us home”

these perfect sunbeams

your eyes, the warm wind, sky, leaves

eternal moment

victory assured

efforts spent to full effect

hesitantly, smile

backseat dreams, wake up

two lone drops race down the glass

they meet, your neck aches
